Wind power generator
The engineer of a development department was tasked to research the prior art of wind power generators, especially with the focus of noise reduction:
„Minimization of noise emission of large wind power generator by modifying the shape of rotor blades”
Without any further thought, he took exactly this text and pasted it into the semantic search mask of Sem-IP.com. The result turned out to be excellent; it returned 134 families, dealing with this topic, where following synonyms were used (just by looking at the titles) for the term „wind power generator“:
- WIND ENERGY CONVERSION APPARATUS
- Wind-driven generator
- Wind energy extraction system
- Wind energy facility
- Wind Energy Plant
- Wind power generation device
- Wind-powered generator
- Wind power installation
- Wind power station
- Wind turbine
For the concept of noise reduction following synonym terms were found:
- REDUCED NOISE EMISSION;
- Acoustic emission control
- Noise controlled operation
- Anti-noise
A prove, that semantic search cares for the essence of a patent more than the actual wording.
Had the engineer taken the input text as input for a keyword search, he first would hae to rewrite it by removing all stop words to read now as: “Minimization noise emission large wind power generator modifying shape rotor blades”.
And with this search (all terms connected with logical AND), one only finds 3 families:
Here only the thierd IPR is somewhat closely related to the input text, the second only remotely, and the first IPR only happens to have the same collection of keywords in its full-text.
Note:
In this example the semantic search yielded a much higehr quality result (without any additional effort like finding synonym expressions etc) than the boolean keyword search.
Stationary hub cap
The patent research specialist of a company had to find material to prove invalidity of a patent for a "Stationary Hub Cap". By means of a key word search in several searching tools he did not come to a success.
Therefore she decided to paste the whole patent text (description and claims) of "Stationary Hub Cap" into the semantic search window of Sem_IP-com. And now a number of patents were identified, which based on the same principle, most of them iin other IPC classifications, namely for fishing rods and angular grinders.
With this information, the patent under question could finally be declared invalid.
