Innovative Search and Observation Methods
Presenter: SK
By applying semantic rules for patent searching, it becomes possible to process large amounts
of full-text patent data. Based on intelligent rules, less important parts of the patent’s text can
be identified and are discarded. The technologically essential content of a patent is described
in so-called invention-clouds, which are then compared to those of some arbitrary input text
(e.g. patent claim or a product specification) to calculate a measure of similarity. This
approach is used in our tools for an initial patent search as well as for the periodic monitoring
processes. In the same way, patents can be classified (through a self-learning scheme) into a
user-defined structure tree, e.g. one which represents different competence centres in an
enterprise.
